The Flight ~Path~ Home

On our flight home from Columbia, GB and I flew into Westchester County Airport. It's fairly close to where we live, but I never thought we'd loop around our area of the northeast during our descent. Guess what? We did!

I was sorting through my many (try thousands of) photos, editing the better ones, trashing the worser (that's a word - my word) ones when, lo and behold, I came across the above photo. Never in a million years did I expect to find what I did, (once I bothered to really look). It was a perfect aerial photo of the area I live in!

That's I-95 cutting a path across the photo, and just to its left, (until it branches off on the other side of the river) is the Amtrak/Metro North rail line. The golf course in the foreground is Long Shore; the one on the far side of the river is Shorehaven Golf Club. Our home is somewhere on the far side of the river between the golf course and railroad tracks. Considering where we live, isn't it amazing we have an ~infestation~ of deer, a worrisome number of coyote, and a bothersome amount of wild turkey, never mind our plethora of squirrels and rabbits?

You know, I really must write a note and request USAir pay more attention to the condition of their jet windows! Dirty windows certainly affect the quality of photos taken!

  2. Maybe you can offer to clean the windows before they take-off next time :-) I'd say you are very fortunate to have all that wildlife where you live!

  3. Even with the windows that is really interesting to have an aerial view of your area. Blow it up and frame it.

  5. Cool shot Annie. You all flew right over all of our houses! And just so everyone knows, Cocktail Corner is about 1/2 inch to the right of the golf course at the top! Come visit us!

  7. Haven't you ever wondered how some people can take fantastic aerial shots through dirty airline windows?
Is it the camera, the photographer or the time of day that is correct.
All I know is that ALL my aerial shots show more of the dirty window than the landscape.
Your aerial photo is great compared to any of mine.

I've been so tied up w/ the move, trying to get settled in, then the break-in that I haven't had a chance to break away from the worries that go along w/ all of that. I miss the posts and photos though... I WILL be back soon!!!

    Thanks again!

  11. Of course US-Air will clean the window for you! :)
But - a great capture anyway. You could have dropped your luggage over your house! ;)
    Cheers, Klaus

  12. Great picture even with the dirty windows. I can just picture flying along and looking out the window only to see someone looking back at me....... Like the tall story window cleaners. They will continually circle the plane during the entire trip cleaning and recleaning each window.

  13. It's a beautiful view! I've never taken a picture from the air of the ground coming into where I live now. It's just a brown desert. Although I love it on the ground, it's definitely nothing to get excited about from the air. Yours, however, is much different.

  14. How neat to get a photo of where you live from the air! I'm glad you made it home safely. Does this mean travel photos will soon be posted? I'm still trying to get all of mine sorted and posted. Yikes!
