Love is in the Air...

And it is not pretty!

Nephew Connor-Man and I turned into my Sasqua Pond Rd., and what greets us?? Two male (of course) turkeys in a fight-to-the-finish scrimmage for the privilege of ~strolling into the woods ~ with the beautiful Ms. Turkey.

Ewww! From what Connor-man and I could see, it looks like the male that is winning ~swallows~ the face of the other male turkey's head. Just about his entire head. Of course, I couldn't stand the unfairness of this, so yelled at Connor-man to "GET OUT OF THE CAR AND SAVE THAT TURKEY "with me. I got out...Connor...not so much. Smart kid. I chased the turkeys around and they ignored me for the first few minutes. I finally ~rushed~ those very big birds (what Connor said I did) and they broke apart. (The first video is the result.) The second video is their first mating dance Connor and I came upon. As I said, it wasn't pretty...on so many levels.

The Turkey Trot

There must be an easier way to win the turkey girl!

  1. Now, I'd pay money for a video of you taking a video while chasing turkeys around.

  3. That is very interesting. Those guys were really serious about this mating thing. What do you suppose would have happened if you hadn't intervened? Were the ones following them around at close range male or female? Interesting.

  6. I didn't realize that turkeys enjoyed an occasional game of Ring Around the Rosie!!!

When I arrived home Tuesday night, there were 17 deer and 10 turkeys in my field. I'm sure there was some **cough** hanky-panky going on.....

  7. That is insane and funny, its a good thing its not a main road or the traffic tie up would be incredible.. there's a reality show in this .. The Real Turkeys of Norwalk

WF: Crysate .. exactly what you were doing, telling them: you're sated .. cut it out!

  9. We have tons of wild turkeys around here but thank my lucky stars, I have never witnessed 'that'. I wonder what would have happened if you hadn't rushed them? Do they fight to the death? Yikes ! This is better than National Geographic!

  10. Yeah, The Real Turkeys of Norwalk. Desperate Turkeys. The Games Turkeys Play. Turkey Survivor. That last one's my fave.

  14. At least no carnage, riggghhhht?

This astounds me because my dad lives IN THE COUNTRY and has dozen of wild turkeys at his house, but I have never seen them this close. They wouldn't dream of coming so close to civilization. I can't believe they are so close to it where you are!
