Ah well...

Not all is lost:

Beautiful Missouri 2011 Spring Daffodils
Courtesy of my mother, Mary Bum.
Not only the photo, but the poem,
(one of my favorites) too,

thus, this post! Thanks mom!

The Daffodils

I wandr'd lonely as a cloud
That floats on high o'er vales and hills,
When all at once I saw a crowd,
A host of golden daffodils,
Beside the lake, beneath the trees,
Fluttering and dancing in the breeze.

Continuous as the stars that shine
And twinkle on the Milky Way,
They stretch'd in never-ending line
Along the margin of a bay:
Ten thousand saw I at a glance,
Tossing their heads in sprightly dance.

The waves beside them danced, but they
Outdid the sparkling waves in glee:—
A poet could not but be gay
In such a jocund company!
I gazed, and gazed, but little thought
What wealth the show to me had brought:

For oft, when on my couch I lie
In vacant or in pensive mood,
They flash upon that inward eye
Which is the bliss of solitude;
And then my heart with pleasure fills,
And dances with the daffodils.

If I can't have my Connecticut daffodils, I'll just have to swoon over the daffs that are once again gracing the front of my parents Missourahhhh home. (Spring-time in Missouri is just beautiful...usually...unless there's a killing April freeze - and that's happened more than once!)

Our daffodils began to bloom, then it became overcast and a cold-front moved through. Must say other folks daffodils are blooming in gardens around us. I don't know what's wrong with mine! :(

Enjoy the above MO view, and if I ever have a CT view, I'll share it!

  2. Beautiful photo. 2011 was a good year for daffodils in Arkansas too. I love daffodils for their early blooming beauty, but they also have a more practical asset: Deer don't like them.
