Always More Than First Meets the Eye...

Safe-looking
But what do I see among the lilies??
Stella sees and flushes the suspect out...
Thanks to Stella, my birds are once more safe
From big bad Trey-You.

Damn Cat & Carnage Proven

Stare-Down

Every morning the routine is the same. I get up, let Stella out and Trey-you, (aka King of the Side Table) either out or in, depending on where he'd decided to spend the prior evening. A bit later, when I either let Trey-you back in or he's through with his breakfast, up he comes to our bathroom.
He jumps up on the vanity by GB's sink and stares either at me or at the faucet until I get his bigger than life hint that he wants the water turned on. I turn it on, and he proceeds to drink and play. This goes on for at least 15 minutes. Every morning. Every single morning. As you can kind of see below, Trey-you's modus operandi is to stick his paw under the water and then lick the water off of it. Whatever works.
Refreshment Paws
(and, no, we're not on 100's of meds - just a lot of reflection goin' on!)

On weekends? I'm sure the bedroom door is tightly shut. I can hear him scratching on the other side, though, and it nearly drives me crazy! Or, even worse, when he's decided to stay out for the night, he plants himself under my window (directly over my head and nearly always cracked open) and meows LOUDLY. Drives me crazier and always works in his favor. Up I must get to let him in. It's then a race to see if I can make it back to the bedroom and get the door closed before he get there too. Damn cat usually wins.

And on another note...
Taken 4/8/9.
( Former goose nest on the peninsula that juts out into our pond)

Early last Sunday morning I was woken up by very loud and distressed-sounding Canada goose honking that lasted for what seemed to be an interminable amount of time. I even tweeted about it (It's 12:30am and the Canada Geese are honking...a lot. I'm worried. I don't like carnage and that's probably what's happening at this time.) Yesterday my daughter discovered the Canada goose carnage and as you can see, the outcome - for the goose/geese at least - wasn't pretty. But somewhere close by there's a coyote or fox that's pretty darn full and happy. Yeah, I know it's that old circle of life thing once again. I just don't like it shoved in my face, ok?

Turklets* and King of the Side Table

A standoff was reached, thank goodness!

I am tickled pink to announce that the turklets made their first appearance over the weekend! It's the first time this summer we've seen them around the house and it was just wonderful to have them finally make their existence known!

Of course, King of the Side Table was also quite pleased with their appearance. I'm sure he was thinking "early Thanksgiving meal - and just my size!" He sauntered over to where the three adults and six babies were, all the while pretending he had no interest in them.

One of the adult turkeys began to follow KotST.  He/she very effectively moved said cat away from the turklets. Of course, KotST had a look of total disdain painted all over his demeanor as if stalking a turklet was the very furthest thing from his mind.

Look how far away from the turklets KotST is now.
Job well done, Mr./Ms. Protector-Turkey!

While that naughty KotSB was kept at bay by the one turkey,
the other two led the six turklets across the road...

To the stone wall...just a quick leap up...

And off to bed...

*Baby turkeys are actually called ~poults~ and a group of turkeys,
baby or otherwise is called a ~rafter~.
So above you have a ~rafter of poults~.
I like a ~rafter of turklets~ better.

King of the Side Table...

...is sleeping!  Shhhhh!

He's mastered the art of being able to
nod off just about anywhere he flops.
He's also become an expert at disturbing my reading time.

King of the Side Table...

...has figured out where all the occupied bedroom windows are. When he decides it's time to come inside from his night of cat carousing and debauchery (I'm living vicariously through him), usually around 4:00am, give or take 15 minutes, he simply goes to each of the windows and meows, scratches and bangs on them until he's finally driven one of the humans over the edge and they open the window for him. I have recently discovered one of my family humans has solved this nightly nightmare by leaving her window permanently open. Below, behold the incriminating evidence. It does cut down on interrupted sleep...however...I can think of several drawbacks to this plan...

"You are lookin' at me?"

"You are not worthy of my look, so I shall bathe now and ignore you..."
(unlike my dog who would immediately come
back in the room, all a-dither for attention)
(15 minutes later)
"My stomach - it roars!"

"YES! I am too quick for the slow human's camera.
Must. Find. Food. Now!"
~~~Hmmm...maybe I should make him into a lamp...
King of the Side Table....
.....cannot stand it when I have the nerve to go into the bathroom and close the door. I wonder what he could possibly be thinking? The dogs don't mind, but Trey-you? Ha! It drives him crazy! I decided to try to catch him in the act, as a trip to the bathroom doesn't include bringing a camera with you. To try to speed things up, I called the cat and blatantly let him see me go into the bath and close the door, instead of trying to sneak in there like I usually do.
Of course, he was giving me that cat look that all cats are good at - some better than others - that clearly said he couldn't care less about what I was doing, actually I could drop off the face of the earth for all he cared as long as there was another human around that would feed him. He didn't fool me for one little moment! I just knew that I'd hear him throwing himself against the door and then see his paw under the door any minute after that. Yep.....he's now throwing himself at the door.....umm, now he's trying to look under the door - I know this because I hear him vigorously sniffing. Look! There's his paw! He kept it right there and didn't move at all so I shuffled my foot a little, and then...
Eureka!the old boy couldn't stand it another moment!
In for the kill he and his paw came! Another bathroom and it's occupant conquered - King of the Side Table once again rules! When I opened the door, Trey-you immediately straightened up and looked away, and then sauntered away with a quick glance over his shoulder that clearly said: "Who me? You thought that was my paw under the door? Don't be silly! I would never stoop to doing something as lame as that!" Oh right, I think, it must have been our other cat! You know, the invisible one. (sigh)
