Sunday Serenity

It's been our family tradition for years to have Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve and Christmas day feasts to rotate between Jules', Kimmy's and my home. I lucked out this year - no gift shopping involved along with this holiday - and did Thanksgiving (had loads of help, was exhausted none-the-less). Kimmy hosted Christmas Eve and Jules Christmas day.  During the beginning of our Christmas day feast, Jules announced in no uncertain terms, she was never doing this again. Kimmy and I concured we weren't doing ours either. From now on everyone is on their own!

Six hours later, at the end of a most wonderful evening, the three of us looked at each other, got a little weepy, and knew we would continue our lovely holiday traditions together indefinitely.

(Above, another ornament from my childhood Christmas tree.)

What a wonderful Christmas we've had!

  2. Aren't traditions wonderful...despite the work? And friends make them worth while. We have some of those star-like ornaments around here, too that must be from Mike's childhood.

  4. Traditions are what it's all about. Until my family began to grow in size, we often celebrated Christmas with our extended Georgia family. I love when all of my blogging friends post photos of their favorite ornaments!

  5. Traditions make the holidays! Even when they change, we always manage to start new ones. I'm glad you 3 survived and had a wonderful time!

    Exhausted is sometimes good :)

  6. How wonderful to have such a tradition .. that's what our Christmas Day is as well .. dinner/laughter at the home of a friend who has room in her heart (and home) for up to 30 people one year .. this year we were only 8 which is a good thing, it means everyone else had somewhere/someone to be/with!

  7. Yeah, it is worth it all. We used to have a house full at the holidays, and due to other things we are now down to just our immediate family and I really miss the bigger group. It is such fun to sit around and talk afterwards....to sit and reminisce about things past. So enjoy it while you have the opportuninty--all too soon things change.

  8. It is worth all the trouble isn't it? We most often get to be guests at our daughter's these days, so that is kinda nice! Glad the ornament got there in time - it looks great!

  9. It is a lot of work, hosting a big dinner over the holidays, isn't it? But it sounds like it was worth it this year. I do remember you being exhausted over the Thanksgiving one!

Peace to you, friend. And love Dlyn's little gift to Stella.

  12. I always feel that way each year. Tradition has it that I do the Thanksgiving dinner...always. We both have large families so it is huge and I am always so exhausted. I always swear that I don't want to do it again but then I go and do it anyway. Christmas almost feels like a vacation compared to Thanksgiving. But I always have great memories and really don't regret it. Tradition makes the world go around.

  13. I love the spiky ornament, but wouldn't want to step on it in the middle of the night.
