(SIGH....BIG. FAT. HEAVY. SIIIIIIGH.)
I just returned from the grocery store - the one in our area where "weekly specials and wonderful prices abound". It's also the place where "The Customer is Always Right". (By the way, there are animated critters throughout the store singing that ditty to you while you shop just to remind you. It's very special.) My bill came to $128.00. I bought 23 items. Only one of those was from the butcher shop and that was 2 lbs. of chicken breast fillets at $2.99 a pound (weekly special). Do the math. Any way you look at it, it stinks!
P.S. I've already washed my $5'ers and thrown 'em in the old salad bowl. They're perfectly dressed in vinegar & oil and ready to go...get me a fork! Gotta keep my fiber consumption up! Want to join me?
P.P.S. I found the above cartoon in my local CT paper. I was delighted to then discover it's from a political cartoon artist that's really making a name for himself and who is from my home-town newspaper, the above mentioned Columbia Daily Tribune! (I grew up in Columbia, MO.) NEAT!!
P.P.P.S. The above mentioned grocery store, Stew Leonard's, really is a very unique and very neat place to go - truly a tourist stop for anyone visiting us here in the Northeast - but their prices.....

You may need a stronger dressing to make them taste better :-) Wow...$128 for 23 items? I think I would eat $5 bills also. Very funny cartoon and interesting to know you grew up in Missouri...I was born in Kansas City, but moved to Indiana when very small.
ReplyDeleteAnnie--I was $165 with NO meat! Gah.
ReplyDeleteWent to Stew's this am...my bill was exactly $111.00..maybe I should play lotto;)
ReplyDeleteI stopped for milk and eggs last night and spent 41.00. Of course, I bought a roast and some other items. But it wasn't that much...I carried it all in a handbasket. Food prices are going to h*ll.
ReplyDeleteThat cartoon is a hoot. Yeah, what's with the prices. Well, I know what's with the prices, but damn, it hurts.
ReplyDeleteI just got back from a "quick trip to town" and between dog food, bird seed, some seeds for the garden and a "few" groceries I am $150 poorer. I did buy some reusable grocery bags though, so I feel all eco-friendly today.
ReplyDeleteI'm horrible. I don't want to know how much my groceries cost. I just swipe my card and move along. It's beyond ugly. The cartoon is hilarious!
ReplyDeleteI am afraid to track my food bill becuase I am afraid of what is happening and what I spend...it's getting out of hand.
ReplyDeleteDo you have an Aldi's? I've discovered it since moving to Tulsa. They don't have everything I need, but I tend to spend only about 60% of what I did no groceries. $158 for an overflowing cart, including chickens, ground beef and ground turkey, milk and eggs, etc.
ReplyDeleteNo Aldi's here in the Northeast, Flea, but my mom in MO LOVES it! Maybe someday....but here in the Northeast it seems that everything. pricewise, is REDICK!
