Autumn Light & Our Danny Boy

I just am blown away by the gorgeous skies we've had this fall in Connecticut. Can't remember the last time they were this consistently day-by-day beautiful. (I guess that's making up for the leaves not being quite up to last autumn's spectacular glory.)

Every morning I drive to school it's all I can do not to pull over once or twice or three times to take a picture of the wonderful morning light! Of course, I can't pull over because I'm already five minutes late to work...darn! Wish I was a morning person!

~~~
For the first time since we've lived here, no one was home for Trick -or- Treater's. New beginnings I suppose. But there was a good reason.
My hubs and son (George Sr. & George III - aka Bly) spent the weekend in Houston visiting with our Dan Doyle - a young man whose family is close to all of we Blystone's, and is one of Bly's dearest friends. Though most of you don't know his story, it's one that should be shouted from the rooftops because it is so very inspirational. Danny was on vacation in Cancun when he dove into the water, hit a rock and was damaged beyond what any 26 year old young man should be. Since July he has been fighting the good fight to get back to an independent life. TIRR in Houston, far from his Northeast home, but where he's constantly been surrounded by his people, has been his key. That, of course, along with Dan's incredible sense of being the ultimate people-person. Never ever has he met a person he doesn't know and like...and who doesn't like, no love, him back.
George the older and George the younger came back with many wonderful stories of good times they had, inspiring moments, tearful times, and memories that will never be forgotten. I picked up the two Georges from LGA and then, in honor of Danny, we traveled to Don Peppe's in Jamaica, Queens, NY to partake of a meal at his very favorite restaurant in the whole wide world. (One of his friends that had also flown in for the weekend had gone there to get Dan his beloved baked clams and fried peppers just before getting on the plane to fly down.) Must say his favorite baked clams really were the best the three of us have ever had. Dan, when you get back, Don Peppe's is where we're all going! Can't wait!
Amazing and sometimes horrible the curve balls life sends our way. I can't imagine having the where-with-all this young man and his family has had to confront this blow - and that they're turning it into the most on-going positive thing it could possibly be. I'm just so very thankful for every bit of support that has been continually sent their way. And that we're a part of their lives. Oh hell...
o danny boy o danny boy we love you so...
Spring Flings
Do you ever have periods in your life that you feel
Scattered to the wind? I do.
Not that anything is particularly wrong...
Just nothing is particularly right.
Scattered to the wind. That's what I am.
View from the 7th Floor
Our view for two days.
The Care? Beyond the norm.
Norwalk Hospital.
~
My GB had cervical spine surgery last week. It was a long and arduous road getting to the point where we knew only surgery was the answer, but we got there! And it was a good thing we did. Not much longer and a wheelchair would have been GB's future. I am so very thankful for everyone and everything that got my GB to where he is today. He's certainly not back in tip-top shape, but headed in that direction.
Let's see....tho GB had been to many doctors and had had many MRI's, EMG's and other tests, no one ever caught on to what was really going on. It was only after GB was sent to physical therapy that someone finally started getting to the bottom of what was truly happening to him. After GB's second session, his physical therapist, Vlad (thank you, you wonderful man!) said to GB - "You need to see a neurologist." I asked GB what that meant, and his reply was Vlad said something weird was happening to his right hand. Of course, I had to call Vlad and ask him what the hell he meant by that. He told me that what he was seeing in GB's hand was stroke-like behavior, though he wasn't saying it was a stroke. Um...that scared the hell out of me.
After a lot lot lot more BS, GB was finally sent to a Neurologist (Daryl Singer - can't sing his praises loud enough - he's the best!). And after some tests he did, he immediately sent us to a Neurosurgeon (Javed Shahid - a total and complete life-saver).
Bottom line, my GB won't require a wheel chair for the rest of his life. He might not ever be 100%, but, by golly, he'll have quality, and a good chance his golf game will get back to a single digit handicap.
May that be the only handicap he ever has.
Tho they'll never see this,
Blessings to Vlad, Singer & Shahid
My GB has a mobile future because of the 3 of you...
Sunday Serenity...
Sometimes (and gratefully) means all my children and local family are gathered 'round our dinner table...
On a Friday, not Sunday night, but still,
Absolutely nothing better...
However, it took a bit of yelling on my part (unruly gang!) to get their attention for the above photo moment....
The before yelling pic :
And then there is our youngest (and cutest) family member...
Miss Ella* in the
Kitchen sink, she really knows
How to use that soap!
Thank you!
Thank you for all your birthday wishes, my most dear friends & family. It truly meant everything to me. I had a lovely birthday - took the day off and slept in. Had a great lunch with Julie and that Mental Mama...and then spent the rest of the day preparing a ginormous amount of food for tonight. Yup, tonight's the night Julie threatened me with dire things if I didn't help her asked me to help her prepare (from beginning to end) the dinner for her school's closing house. 150 adults and 150 kids. I've never done anything this big. And it's the first time in my life I've gone to Costco and totally filled 2 shopping carts plus a dolly! It was simply thrilling! We got done around midnight. I am tired. If you have a minute, send good karma our way for a successful evening. I'm more than a little nervous!
Two Words...
Memorial Day at
Norwalk, CT
Their annual tribute to our
fallen soldiers in Iraq/Afganistan.
One flag for each of our fallen.
Around 800 new flags had to be added this year.
Quiet Glen
Reach out in the early morning mist,
As the day's sun
Breaks the calmness of night,
And rise to the new day,
A new awareness of being.
Shake hands with the world,
And smile.
It's great to be alive!
A Wet World & Other Treats
If I were a duck
This is the pond I'd call home,
Rain showers and all.
Back from NYC.
We had a blast! The bloggers
Meet-up was a hit!
Miss La-La (Mental Pause Mama) and I, along with her kids Augie and the Bird, drove in to meet up with our Daryl and meet (for the very first time) Miss Angie, of Big Hair Envy. Along for the ride was Angie's hubby and beautiful daughter. We all met for dinner at The Red Cat Restaurant and proceeded to spend the next two and a half hours getting to know each other, oh alright we really spent the majority of our time together just laughing ourselves silly! The company, the laughs, the place, the food were all simply wonderful! Thank you, my friends, my time was very well spent!
J is for...What Else???
Part of my family by marriage,
but over the last 30 years, she's become
one of my dearest, nearest, and best friends.
Here for me and I'm there for her - forever always.
Doesn't get much better than that!
(this is the only photo she'd approve of to be seen here. Silly girl!)
(BTW, that's Jules' son Connor on the left  in that awesome Obama baseball hat.)
MY World - A Necessary Narration...
Saugatuck River with the tide going out.
My school building and ~The Stuart Collection
reside along the banks of this river.
I've close ties to both.
Obviously my mallards have lost their way....
Excuse me!  Sasqua Pond Road!! That's your home!!!
Go back NOW!!!
All we girls gathered at Polly Rae's home tonight
to celebrate the Xmas holidays...
and also, unbeknownst to her, to celebrate a soon-
to-be birthday as well!  (Miss Kim, above).
Isn't she lovely?? (O dear -that's a Stevie Wonder song, yes?)
Holiday celebrations and birthday celebrations...
What a wonderful time was had by all of us!!!
And a very happy b-day, Miss Kim!
~~~

And now on a sad side note....
As you all know, much to my angst, ~The Stuart Collection~, the store I moon-light at, is closing. To add phenomenal insult to phenomenal injury, yesterday morning, some very unkind human(s) shop-lifted every single piece of our Vietri cutlery samples from the pictured display case. No, obviously none of we workers working were aware of the theft. (This has never been the kind of store shoplifters regularly visit.) We figure a lookout was watching the register part of the store, where most of us were, while the shoplifters were quickly - and silently - loading all the flatware into their bags...and quickly escaping. It's been reported to the police and I hope we get ~lucky~ and the baddies are caught. Not much of a chance...but still!

I think I'm losing faith in we humans.....

Every Purpose Under the Sun

To everything there is a season,
a time for every purpose under the sun.
A time to be born and a time to die;
a time to plant and a time to pluck up what is planted;
a time to kill and a time to heal ...
a time to weep and a time to laugh;
a time to mourn and a time to dance ...
a time to embrace and a time to refrain from embracing;
a time to lose and a time to seek;
a time to rend and a time to sew;
a time to keep silent and a time to speak;
a time to love and a time to hate;
a time for war and a time for peace.

Sunday Serenity

The wonder of the world,

The beauty and the power,

The shape of things,

Their color, lights and shades,

These things I saw.

Look ye also while life lasts.
