My Sunset

I close my eyes and I can vision my sunset

laid across the water with clouds gently placed on top.

The yellow is so bright that it consumes my thoughts

I fall deeper into the colors of the sun so that I could touch

the orange glow, what a soft feeling, my sunset.

My sunset takes me to another place and time

where there will be no problem to tall to overcome.

This vision is imbedded in my mind

it is like a river running free

a clear thought on a sunny day

and it ends with my sunset and me.

My sunset frees my thoughts from confusion;

it leads me to believe that I am on top of the world,

setting me free to score over the waters of my mind.

My sunset places me in a part of heaven

where the day comes to an end

with the beauty of my sunset.

Photo was taken by moi this past July '10 in Mathews, VA in our VA Blogfest hostess with the mostest Janice's beautiful back yard. Actually that body of water is Queen's Creek. Queen's Creek is just as peaceful as the sea. For me, there's no better place than living by water. Well, except during a hurricane or a Nor'easter.

The Boys go Fishing

Yesterday after school Connor-man gave his Uncle George a call to see if they could go fishing. That was just fine with Uncle George so off he went to pick Connor up. They gathered up their gear and headed out...to our pond that's about 20 feet from our kitchen door. After putting down their poles, off they went to various places around our house in search of earthworms. For whatever reason, earthworms have been in very short supply this spring. (Son Bly and Connor were looking for worms over the weekend and found not a one. Bly was convinced they'd either all died off or there had been a mass worm exodus outta our yard.) Connor-man and his Uncle George spent more time yesterday looking for worms than they actually spent fishing! But with the 10 or so worms they found, they caught a bunch of sunnies and had a grand old time!

(He and Uncle George also fished Father's Day in 2008 {here}.)

12/01 @ 8:02pm update: Well well well! There have been a few developments here concerning this particular haiku I tried to pen. Daughter dearest (AKA Formerly Affianced - don't ask, it's a once-sad story, and now she's happy and just needs to change the name of her blog - and actually post on it!...oh dear...TMI!). pointed out the first line of the above haiku contained 6, not 5, but 6 syllables. Perhaps, this is the greatest haiku sin I have ever committed (let's not discuss the quality content of the three lines, please). She suggested losing the a in across. Hmm...I like that better than replacing ~migrating~ with ~flying~ or ~winging~. Consider it done! Then, my friend, Flea, penned a haiku in the right rhythm that was just wonderful:

Geese flying across
The golden wheat near water
Safe in parking lot

So very nice, Ms. Flea! Thank you!

A Perfect SWF Day

Today was a "gift" kind of day. It began in the mid 60's with no humidity, and continued as such. That makes for a most magnificent cloud-watching kind of day! Don't tell anyone, but I stopped off at one of my very favorite Saugatuck River spots to take a few photos before work. OK, it made me a bit late for work, but who can blame me with this photo to be taken?

Such a very unusual summer we've had here in the Northeast. Not many days that were hot, so much rain it's unbearably wet and all surfaces are incredibly slippery historical, and green as far as the eye can see. My lawn has been perpetually green, well, until the last week, when it suddenly began to turn brown. I think the browning is caused not by lack of water, but because my grass has finally given up the ghost along with my zucchini, cucumbers and tomatoes and simply decided the best thing to do was drown. (Don't even ASK me about the mildew on my hosta plants and maple tree leaves - it's real and it's not at all pretty - and it's the first time in 30 years that's ever happened!) The weeds? If we're not careful, they'll be growing over the top of the house next week!

So there, my friends, you have a small glance of my magnificent sky for this week. I know there are many beautiful skies all over the world, but my sky certainly ranks with one of the best! Glad it's mine!

Just Another Manic Monday

Been a roller-coaster of late. I'm in Missouri rather unexpectedly as Mom became ill before Dad had the chance to fully recover from the same malaise. They so easily take care of one another, but when both are under the weather at overlapping times...not good is the result! But this too will pass. Dad is looking much better and know Mom will follow suit soon.

And guess what I couldn't find on my way out the door (to fly home to MO) last Friday? My camera! It is always with me! Can you imagine me being anywhere at all without my camera, let alone my parent's glorious place??? Me neither! (In my defense, I had little time to pull it all together and pack, and we all know I need lots of time for that.)

Above is a photo that has absolutely nothing to do with what's written above of some of the glorious wood pilings (I think that's what they're called) that line our Connecticut coast in various places. For whatever reason I love how they look.

Desolate, weathered. But enduring.

Side note: For the very first time in the 30 years I've lived on the edge of my glorious pond (not pictured above) I am hearing a most glorious bull frog serenade (for the uninitiated, it kinda sounds like an elongated belch)! Simply wonderful! Hope those ole bullfrogs are here for many years to come!

My World Tuesday

Monday through Friday I travel down the road that skirts the Saugatuck River. No matter what the season, there's always something happening on my river (yep, I've claimed ownership). Because it's a river with tides, it's even more changing than inland rivers. 

If I didn't live on my adored pond, this is where I'd want to live. Perfection having that dock to walk down and be able to feed the birds of the river! 

Other activities are taking place, too. Crewing from The Saugatuck Rowing Club, is always happening in the no-snow months both when I drive to work, and when I'm going home. I understand they have a river crew class for women of a ~certain age~ that's really really good exercise. I've successfully avoided that class thus far. (And I expect this state of affairs to continue into the future.)

Oh, and someone's fishin'! Wonder if he caught his dinner...

Wistful Thinking & Thursday Cleanup

I miss my home state...ahh my Mizzourah...

We're going back in April and I can hardly wait!

Our Mimi is still on an improving trend. She is finding it hard to walk as she gets so winded, but we're hoping with time and PT she'll regain the strength she lost. She has so many visitors it's just ridiculous - what a wonderful tribute to the friend she's been to so many over the years! If anyone cares to drop her a line, call her or visit her, just e* me and I'll give you the info. She's an incredible woman. As her doctor so eloquently put it:

"The old gal has a 90 year old body and a 21 year old mind!"
