Old Man's Brother...The Older Man

Old Man's Brother...Older Man by annbumbly

You know The Old Man that I have a photo of in my header - and that I've blogged about ad nauseum infinitum? Well, here is his much older brother. This old man has been around for as long or longer than my old man, and he is HUGE! My brother has a wonderful photo of my Dodgie standing inside of him, and you can get a sense of just how huge he was in all his glory. There isn't a tree near-by that is half as big as this tree is.
For the 40 years my parents have called this land theirs, he's always been this way. Never had the pleasure of seeing him in all his living glory. Sure wish I could have.

Looking Up The Gigantic Hollow Old Tree

Photo courtesy of my brother, taken 6/21/09 down by the creek
below my parent's home in Columbia, MO.
Go here for his MO photostream of this & other '09 MO pics.

Magnificent tree!
Two years older, and still so
Beautifully intact!

What does Dodgie see?
Mysteries known only to him,
And, of course, Old Tree.

P. S. The happiest of birthdays to you, Miss Rosa.
And many more, my dear friend!

P. P. S. See all the light streaming in from that hole in the trunk just above Dodgie's head? If you look at Old Tree from two years ago that's in my header, above, (or here a year ago), you can see that large hole was just a slit two years ago. Ohhh...I know Old Tree will fall sooner than later, and I'm going to miss him so!

Old Man Tree One Year Later

Yesterday my brother, seester, Dodgie and I hiked down to the creek bottom on my parents land. Mom and dad live in the middle of 50 acres within the city limits of Columbia, MO. Their house is on top of the hill with fields surrounding it and a pond about 30 feet from the deck. To get to the valley we followed the old covered wagon trail down.

Dodgie standing underneath the same tree you see above.
It was wonderful to come around the bend in the creek
and see that tree still standing in all his glory.

I see a face in the trunk - actually I see Darth Vadar - and though a little more of his face is missing, he's surprisingly intact, considering his precarious position on the side of the creek. Just down a bit to Darth's right there's another sycamore that's fallen down because of storm currents undermining it's root system.

Undeterred, that tree has branches growing out of it's top side.

My brother's photos from yesterday are here!
