An Autumn Snippet...

Another month comes 'round...
I've lived in Connecticut for 32 years. Never thought I'd live here longer than 5 years, but that's another story for another day, (oh, and don't hold your breath!). In all the years we've been here, this has, hands down, been our most  glorious fall/autumn. Just incredibly, gloriously, spectacularly beautiful!

It's been a very long week so I'm not waxing eloquent about anything at all...  Instead, below is a snippet from the health office:

Little boy (a 3rd grader) comes into the health office:

Him: "I just want to know what's going on in there!", (said while vigorously poking the top of his left forearm).
Me: "What do you mean what's going on in there?"
Him: "I have this thing shooting all through my body under my skin and I don't know why and now it's stuck underneath right here and it's making my arm feel all funny!"
Me: "What's this thing you're talking about? Do you know?"
Him: "Yes! It's a pencil that's shooting through me! How do I get it out? You know, my mom gave me this book about my body. I haven't read it and I should because maybe then I'd know about this thing in my body." [him whispering] "My mom told me that there's no way a whole pencil could be shooting through my body, but I don't think she's right. Well, maybe it's not the whole pencil but just a part of the pencil, but it's still in there!"
Me: (totally at a loss for words and trying really really hard not to laugh): "Well, um, maybe a bag of ice would help?"
Him: "Yeahhhh.......I think maybe it will freeze that thing that's shooting through me and then it will burst through my skin here and be out of me.....Oh no, will that hurt???"
Me: _____________!

I got him a bag of ice for his shooting body and he went back to class. And then I lost it.

Never have heard whether the shooting pencil part left his body.....

  3. That's a great photo. I agree our fall has been spectacular!

And that kid is a hoot. Is this his mind at work all the time? He must be a treat.

  4. Years ago, before we had a health suite in our school, the duties fell to me and the principal. It's funny you should mention this story because last week when I went to the pharmacy, I ran into a former parent from the school (I thought she looked familiar!) She asked me if I remembered her son. Oh yes, I told her. And she said, "you were so hilarious when you told him that he had Cap'n Crunch disease. I'll never forget it!!"
I do remember him coming into the office to tell me that it hurt when he did this (doing something with his tongue to the roof of his mouth). So I told him not to do it and life would be grand. He said he can't stop, though. So I asked what he had for breakfast that morning and it was Cap'n Crunch. "Oh", I told him, "you've got the Cap'n Crunch disease. Don't worry. It'll be gone by lunchtime." And with that, he cheerfully skipped out of the office. He'd come back every now and then to tell me similar stories about his body, very much like this one in your post!

Sorry this is so long, but thanks for the funny little memory, Annie!!

  5. ...Good Morning Missouri girl! What a cute story! Gosh, don't you just love children and their innocence? I could just sit for hours and listen to you and Kate up there talk about your daily ventures with kids... :o)

...Btw, I saw your comment over at CBWs and thank you for that but yes - I did let my blog go... I'd much rather read and comment(as you can tell:o) than have to also maintain my own blog. It's much more fun for me this way... :o)

...Love the photos of the guy and the dog over here to my right - how cute is that? Puppy love! lol...

...I have to admit that I'd give up Missouri living to live where you're at. I've never been there but it's just so beautiful there and full of so much history...

    ...Happy Saturday! Blessings too...

  6. That is TOO hilarious! Did he jab himself with a pencil and the lead got stuck in his arm? Probably not, huh?

  7. LOL! If laughter is the best medicine, you must be the healthiest person around! Little kids can come up with the most amazing ideas! This sounds exactly like something my son would have said 30 years ago! The trees in your photo are beautiful, and our autumn has been great too, although we still really need some rain!

  8. What a cute story! This reminds me of the humor children bring and immediately my mind went back to the "cookbooks" my kindergarten son brought home to me. It was titled "How to Cook a Turkey". Well, let me tell you, it was hysterical. There was everything from "...wash the turkey really, really good with tide..." to "cook the turkey for 15 minutes and yell at Daddy to cut it up". Brings back sweet memories of when my children were babies.

Needless to say I went back to class LOL. Love the trees in the pictures too just beuatiful!

  14. Oh, those trees! I need that picture!

And those shooting pencil parts right before they leave the body. I HATE when that happens :)! It's such a good thing that you know a bag of ice cures darn near everything. Very cute story!
