Killer Icicles

All around our home we are growing killer icicles. If one of them broke off and hit someone, there could very well be carnage...and red-hued snow is really not a good thing.

This winter is turning out to be one of the most precipitous (isn't that a great word??) years we've had in a while. We're ~bracing~ for another "snow event", as they're now called, tomorrow. I'm sure the grocery stores will be jammed, as all we Connecticuter's (Connecticutan's?) tend to go into a complete frenzy whenever snow is predicted. Silly? Yup!

I'll never forget tuning in to our local TV station a few years ago and hearing a very serious looking weatherman announcing: "Storm Bob... He's coming... Details at 10..." (Storm Bob????)

All I can say, that's definitely the name of my next dog, even if he's a she!

  4. As far as I can tell, they only name them for us on Channel 3. Did you get your bread, milk and eggs yet? Stew's is a zoo.

  7. Point of information, Ann -- we Connecticut people are 'Nutmeggers.' Or else something profane, from time to time.

  8. Great picture! And I agree, "Storm Bob???"

  9. Storm Bob is happening here right now, although it's more of a Storm Betty at the moment.

    Your icicles look scary.

  10. Those are particularly lethal looking icicles ... I think the only defense is a Conair 20000 set on scorch ...

Amazingly New Yorkers also get hysterical when the weather report predicts a 'storm condition' ... people, its a city .. get a grip.

  11. I think icicles are one of the neatest things about winter. Perhaps one will fall and impale a squirrel.

  12. Looks like a photo of birch trees! Those are big icicles!

  13. If not for your mention of iclcles, my mind directly went to a field of birch trees. Isn't it weird how the brain sees something entirely different?
Great shot and let's pray that you never see red snow.

  14. TSAnnie, I lived through storm Larry back in the late 70's as a newlywed. I was 5 or 6 months pregnant and we were house bound for days. We walked to the grocery store pulling a wagon so we could get food. Thankfully we lived in town at the time or we would have been out of luck. Now I am in sunny AZ and I don't miss it one bit. It's fun to watch on the TV, but I pray you will all be safe, warm, and well fed!

  15. What a great shot~

We had our own little snow event this morning... a bit of a surprise! I'm sure yours will be much more drastic. Are you all stocked up?!

  16. You're in Connecticut? I thought all this time that you was in Arizona!!! OMGosh, how stupid am I? Yup, your "About Me" says Connecticut Shoreline! I'm so sorry about that!
I love the words you come up w/ though - You crack me up!!!

  17. I miss seeing icicles. We used to get them in northeastern Oregon where I grew up but Western Oregon doesn't stay cold long enough for them to form. Neat picture.

  18. How about Conecticutarians, like ocrogenarians? Lovely icicles, must be wonderful in the sun. I would also avoid one dropping on my jugular.

  19. Wow, those are truly frightening! Here in NJ, we are getting alot of "wintry mix" this year. Yuck. I'd rather have just the snow. We used to joke about my mother and snow storms -- while everyone else would be going to the store for bread and milk, she'd be getting salami and Italian bread. A storm was always her excuse for breaking her diet...

Hope you don't get hit too hard. :)
    xoxo,
    Mary

  21. Hi ~ Sitting here typing as I watch the snowflakes fall ~ again! It drives me crazy how the media overreacts to each storm and people act panicky in the grocery store! I love the colors in this photo - beautiful shot of a potentially lethal weapon!

  22. What a great picture. I try and try to get icicle shots ... they never turn out. I think I'll just print yours and say that I took it. Ha!

  23. well, here in the deep south if there is so much as a flake of snow we immediately run to the grocery to buy milk and bread. I'm not really sure why those two items are vital except that sandwiches must be in order during the "blizzard."
