Word of the Day

Plethora:

pleth·o·ra:  A superabundance; an excess.

[Late Latin plthra, from Greek, from plthein, to be full; see pel-1 in Indo-European roots.]

~~~
As used in a sentence: "I'd been given a plethora of roses for my birthday. While in and of itself, that was simply lovely, I do wonder why I wasn't given a plethora of 3 carat diamond stud earrings, one for each ear, instead (sigh)."
  3. You didn't get a plethora of diamonds, because they are just carbon, a bit shiny but lifeless.
    These roses however a life form, much more beautiful and precious.
    That's why!
  4. Funny use of the word! I think the plethora of roses will have a more lasting memory then the diamonds would have :-) That particular rose is very stunningly beautiful!
  6. Sad Sack here. It seems I have occasion to use 'dearth' a lot more than 'plethora.' But that pic of the yellow rose does help ;^)
