My World (Is Annoying of Late)

Dear Squirrel Proof Bird Feeder Company,

While your product is one of beauty and does feed the birds oh so very well, as you can see from the above photo...squirrel proof?? Not so much!  I am sure whomever designed this feeder was convinced squirrels weighed no less than 2 pounds at any time in their lives. Rest assured the squirrels of Connecticut do not fit that weight criteria. I really do think it is time for your company to go "back to the drawing board" and redesign your weight sprung spring system. Obviously. If you need further proof, please refer to the sideways-viewed video below.

Love, TSannie

As an aside, NO one told TSannie that videos when edited can't be flipped...thus...camera can't be flipped, but must stay straight on while actually recording something. However, even a sideways video confirms above story. (Funny, sideways is part of the name of last Saturday's post as well.)

Tilt your head to the left and enjoy!
that's one smart squirrel!

  1. You need a Yankee Flipper!

At least, that way, the squirrels will have a carnival ride while eating the bird seed.

  2. Yankee Flippers are great and they work, but you have that battery to contend with. We have had 100% success with Squirrel Busters by Brome (there's one on the home page of my store)..I guess I shuld say 100% success with squirrels - because the deer have learned to stick their tongues in the ports and they can actually get a lot of seed that way. Other than baffling your pole, that's the easiest and surest way to thwart Scamper. It has a cardinal ring, so you don't miss that beauty.

  3. my dear hubby cut 2 ft by 2 ft peices of tin then rigged them just under the feeders so that the squirrels can climb the pole but can not jump far enough to get around the tin... 99% of the time these work but after several years of wear the hole has torn on one and it is now laying on the ground... they are not the prettiest things but oh so effective. we also grease the poles just be cause it is a total hoot to watch them try to climb then slide back down ( we use pam spray so it does not hurt them) they are such destructive buggars. I need a massage now after tipping to see the video LOL
    Happy Tuesday!

  4. That's the same squirrel that has been at my feeders. I sent him to you. Merry Christmas!

  5. I've actually made a squirrel proof feeder, so if the furballs are genuinely pissing you off, let me know.
It's no thing of beauty, involves a trip to the hardware store - most likely - and takes a little time to build, but it totally works.
Mmm, that squirrel has a pretty thick coat, yes?

  6. Bastard squirrels.

Living in a newish development with no mature trees, squirrels are not a problem. However the also bastard moles are. They tunnel to where I have the feeders hung and hang out eating what has dropped. When you approach, they sneak away under the grass. I hate them.

Do what we did when I was a child, shoot them with a BB pistol - not enough to kill them, but their butts do smart.

  7. What an adorable squirrel! Did you grab your broom after you shot the video and whack him good?

  8. I feel your distress! Feeding birds-only in my yard is a losing battle. I've tried putting up a squirrel feeder to keep them away from the (not) squirrel-proof bird feeders. Not successful. The little buggers even chewed off the wood base of their special feeder.

  9. Annie: How can you be made at that Grey Squirrel when he gave you that neat upsidedown vedio.

  11. LOL! Face it! Squirrels rule! I have one of those feeders, too and don't ever bother to fill it any more. It is made with such cheap rotten springs that it doesn't take long for them to no longer work at all and the birds can't get food either. We all learn that little video secret the hard way....I have some sideways videos somewhere!

  12. Oh, you are too funny. Feel like HomeTown Buffet for the squirrels? Great shots, anyhow.

  13. Crafty little buggers aren't they? I just give up and let them eat the seed. I have tried everything. Funny post.

  14. We've been having a lot of trouble with big hairy rats too. That's all they are, right? They've been shredding my ouside tablecloth. Grrrr...

  15. Funny post, as much as they can be annoying, they are really very cute. And I suppose we all need to eat don't we. Kind of miss seeing them scampering about the yards. Trade you some of the big lizards that frequent my back yard for a squirel?

  16. I can't tell you how many great videos I've taken sideways. I have a real mental block about that. Adorable squirrel.. he earned that meal.
