A World of Fun

We hosted a baby shower this weekend and my daughter volunteered to make the cake. From scratch. Totally from scratch. I'm not kidding. I tell you this because anyone who knows me even slightly knows I am more than capable of botching even a box cake mix. I cannot bake. At all. And I'm a pretty decent cook.
As you can see, the cake was iced with fondant. Tho she didn't make the fondant (Wal-Mart carries it in their craft department - along with butter extract - imagine that!), she had to dye all those circles. I'd say it was a pretty terrific job, especially considering this is only the second major cake she's made and only the second time she's worked with fondant. Of course, she wasn't entirely happy with it, but we were all impressed and thought it was wonderful. If I would have had to make this, I'd still be in a puddle on my kitchen floor, weeping copious tears.
Extras...
Anyone need a decorated cake?

  5. I'm impressed. Although I wouldn't say I can't bake at all, I'm a better cook than baker. The TIME it takes to create something so wonderful is more than I'm usually willing to give. She did an AWESOME job. She could sell her services.

  10. OMG! I love this cake! My kids always had store bought cakes because I can't do them either. They always looked like a 4 year old made them.

    Your daughter rocks!

  14. Wow, that's pretty! I can bake...I love to bake. But cook? Not so much. I hate putting dinner on the table...which is why my dh does so often.

  16. Awesome! I've never worked with fondant, but I think it would be hard to do what she did!

  17. Great job to your daughter - especially considering it's only her second cake. I've never used fondont before, but I've been dying to try! Now that I've seen it attempted by someone other than a bakery "professional", I think I might dig up enough guts to do it. I love all of those pretty little circles she made!

  18. How old is your daughter?!

That is one terrific looking cake for someone just starting out.

Tell your daughter to keep an eye on this site - she'll get a laugh from it!

  19. That cake turned out adorable. My younger sister and my middle daughter have made cakes using home made fondant. It is supposed to be pretty simple to make and their cakes always turn out really cute. Me? Never tried it. Your daughter did a great job.
